Innsbruck is the closest airport to Ischgl by a wide margin: 99 km on the A12 Inntal motorway to Landeck, then 30 km up the Paznaun valley past See and Kappl. In normal conditions the drive takes about 1 h 20 min; on snowy days and on Saturday changeover days allow 30 minutes more. Munich (301 km), Zurich (234 km) and Salzburg (277 km) are all more than three hours away by road.

Ischgl has one of the longest seasons in the Alps, from late November into early May, and almost all guests arrive at the weekend. That matters for your choice of transport: on Saturdays the Paznaun road is busy in both directions, and the last public bus up the valley leaves Landeck in the early evening.

Option 1: private transfer with AlpTaxi

Option 2: train and bus via Landeck-Zams

Public transport is a good option if you travel alone or as a couple, arrive before mid-afternoon and are happy to carry your bags twice. Take bus F from the airport to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof (about 20 minutes), then a train towards Landeck/Bregenz – Railjets and regional expresses run roughly every hour and need 50 to 60 minutes to Landeck-Zams. Bus 260 leaves right outside the station every 30 minutes and reaches Ischgl after about 55 minutes.

Tickets: buy the train ticket in the ÖBB app or at the machine (standard fare around € 17–32, cheaper “Sparschiene” fares if booked early), the bus rides are part of the Tyrolean VVT network and can be paid on board or in the VVT app. If your hotel has activated your guest card in the PIA holiday app, the bus from Landeck-Zams up the valley is already included on the day of arrival. Count on 2½ to 3 hours in total including the two changes.

Option 3: shared shuttles

Shared shuttle operators also serve Ischgl from Innsbruck Airport on fixed departure times. They are cheaper than a private car for one or two people, but you wait for the other passengers, stop at other hotels along the valley and are tied to the timetable. Check the current fares and departure times before you compare – they change with the season.

Which option is right for you?

A rule of thumb based on how our guests actually travel:

Solo traveller or couple, arriving before 15:00, light luggage: train and bus are the cheapest way and perfectly doable.
Three or more people: a private transfer costs about the same per person as the train, saves at least an hour and takes you to the hotel door.
Late flights, families with small children, lots of ski luggage or a Saturday arrival in peak season: book the transfer – the last bus is gone and the taxi rank is busy.
On a tight budget but not keen on changing trains: a shared shuttle sits between the two, if its timetable fits your flight.

Good to know before you travel

Winter tyres and chains are the driver’s job, not yours: our cars are equipped for the Paznaun road all season.
